The UGC NET is conducted to make candidates eligible to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureships in various universities and colleges across India. UGC NET Selection Procedure 2024

Step 1 - Fill out the UGC NET application form 2024

Candidates who want to appear in the UGC NET exam have to first fill out the application form successfully. The application form has been released on April 20, 2024. In order to apply, candidates have to meet the UGC NET 2024 eligibility criteria.

Step 2 – Appear for the Exam

Candidates who successfully submit the application form will be issued the admit card of UGC NET to appear in the exam.

Step 3 – Qualify for the Exam

The next step for candidates who appeared in the exam and have prepared for the UGC NET exam is qualifying it. To qualify for UGC NET JRF and Lectureship, candidates will have to score the qualifying marks.

Candidates can check the minimum qualifying marks for the UGC NET exam:

  • Aggregate UGC NET qualifying marks for General category candidates (both papers) - 40% marks.

  • UGC NET Qualifying marks for OBC, other candidates from reserved category - 35% marks

Step 4 – UGC NET Selection Process 2024 for JRF & Lectureship

UGC decides the qualifying criteria to select aspirants for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship. The criteria are mentioned below:

UGC NET Selection Criteria for Lectureship

Only 6% of candidates who appeared will qualify for the exam and become eligible for Assistant Professor. A category-wise reservation policy will be applied for these 6% qualified candidates.

The subject-wise merit list and UGC NET qualifying criteria for Lectureship as per category will be prepared on the basis of the formula mentioned below:

UGC NET Passing Criteria

Number. of Qualified Candidates (General Category) for Lectureship in English Subject

The number of candidates (General category) who secure a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in papers 1 & 2 taken for ‘English’ (x) Total number of slots available under General category (÷) Total number of candidates (General category) overall subjects who secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers combined.
