How Many IAS are Selected Every Year?
Union Public Services Commission is the conducting body for the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) exam. The commission announces every year about 1000 to 1150 vacancies for the UPSC Civil Service exam for various posts. Out of these vacancies around 175 to 180 candidates are selected for the UPSC IAS exam.

The commission selects the candidates in three various steps that are preliminary, main and interview.
Every year, approximately 13 lakhs candidates apply for the UPSC CSE exam. Out of which, nearly 8 to 9 lakhs candidates were appearing for the preliminary examination and approximately 2250 candidates were shortlisted for the Interview stage. UPSC IAS 2024 Prelims Qualified Statistics
UPSC conducted the Civil Services exam 2024 on June 16, 2024 across the country. Following that, the commission announced the UPSC IAS prelims result on July 1, 2024. Nearly 13.3 lakhs candidates applied for the various Civil Services posts. Out of which, a total of 14627 candidates are selected for mains examination.
